And then the Democrats did take the vaccines. And then the Republicans made it their whole identity to not take the vaccine. in no small part because Trump mocked anyone who did take the vaccines, dismissed the severity and scale of the pandemic as "Democratic lies" and "fake news" (because he wanted to run on the economy) and refused to do so himself, lest the press see him as "weak." And now Trump, being Trump and going whichever way the wind blows, fully embraces anti-vaccine ideology by endorsing RFK - a well known antivaxxer and conspiracy theorist - and promising to give him "carte blanche" control over numerous health agencies and health policy in general.

Do you recollect?

You're the one trying to retcon reality.

Trump undermined initial vaccination efforts, defunded health agencies and downplayed the severity of the pandemic[0..2] and then took credit for all of it. He mocked masks and refused to wear a mask or get vaccinated[3..5], then he got vaccinated. And just days ago he said he would consider defunding schools that required vaccines[6].

No one is going to buy this narrative that Democrats were the anti-vaxxers all along and Trump and the Republicans were always pro-vaccine. All of this is recent history. It wasn't that long ago. We were all there. We remember how it was.

No-one is saying that. It's just as false as it is to say the Republicans (and Trump) were never pro-vaccine. They were, but once a) the lack of severity of COVID was better understood, and b) the lack of effectiveness and the side effects of the vaccine became known, they became more sceptical.

And masks still don't work, and are a waste of time. The science tells us that.

And then his crowd booed him and he stopped doing that.
